Equality, diversity and inclusion
We are committed to becoming a national exemplar for diversity and inclusion. We aim to create a positive sense of belonging for everyone, regardless of their background or identity, to value visible and invisible differences and to create a sense of togetherness.
For us, inclusion is about positively striving to meet the needs of different people and creating environments where everyone feels respected and able to achieve their full potential. However, we know that there is a lot to learn and do, and we are committed to doing so because it’s the right thing to do for both staff and the people we care for. No person (staff, patient or public) will receive less favourable treatment on the grounds of the nine protected characteristics as governed by the Equality Act 2010 regardless of race or ethnicity, age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, religion or belief, marriage and civil partnerships, pregnancy and maternity. We also believe in taking an intersectional look at equality and ensuring we support our staff, patients and members taking into account our role in equity and health inequalities.
As our integration continues, we'll be merging our information about our approach to Equality and Diversity at the Royal Devon. In the meantime, the following links will help you find documents, policies and any other information you need.

Public Sector Equality Duty and Equality Delivery System report (EDS2)
The Equality Delivery System (EDS) is designed to help NHS organisations to better understand whether their existing systems support staff and communities equitably, and ways in which they could improve to work towards a place free of discrimination. The Trust have been able to fully complete some of the domains in EDS which can be found in this document. We have identified areas for improvements and hope to publish a comprehensive EDS in 2024/25 with the support of our system partners.
