Our vision: Royal Devon's Green Plan
Becoming the first-ever national healthcare system to achieve net zero is no small task.
Our Green Plan sets out a framework for how the Trust will reach this goal, with a focus on delivering sustainable and high-quality healthcare, reducing our carbon footprint and ensuring our Trust is fit for the future.
Our Green Plan milestones at a glance:
- 2030 – reduce our carbon footprint by 80% (against 1990 baseline)
- 2040 – achieve net zero by 2040
- 2045 – achieve Net Zero Carbon PLUS
This will be achieved through Trust wide changes to the way we deliver our services and collaboration with wider NHS organisations, partners and our supply chain.
Our efforts will be guided by nine areas for action, which will enable us to create meaningful and lasting change.

By putting sustainability at the heart of what we do, we know we can deliver better, more sustainable care – keeping people healthy and protecting our planet for generations to come.
