Choosing where to live

Devon has become one of the most desirable places to live in the UK, thanks to our beautiful beaches, countryside, towns and cities. There’s a great deal of choice when it comes to finding somewhere to live.

Choosing where to live - Northern services

North Devon District Hospital is positioned on the A39, the main road that links Barnstaple with Lynton in one direction and Bideford in the other.

Barnstaple

The immediate area surrounding the North Devon District Hospital is Pilton, a pretty village on the fringes of Barnstaple’s main town. Pilton is home to a primary school, a junior school and a community college. There are a number of residential streets in Pilton, but due to its popularity, it is harder to find available accommodation.

There are lots more places within the local area to consider. Although Barnstaple town centre has limited housing nearby, for example, the village of Newport is a desirable choice with an Excellent Ofsted rated Primary School and a Secondary School. Newport is within 2.5 miles of North Devon District Hospital.

Exeter

As you would expect in a city, property in Exeter is a wide range of styles and ages. The most desirable area is St Leonard’s (1.5 miles from the main site), which has most of the fine period properties the city has to offer. Heavitree is the area nearest to the acute hospital at 0.5 miles.

Pennsylvania (2 miles) and Streatham Rise (2.5 miles) have generally more space around properties but are slightly further away from the centre. Countess Wear is another popular area 2 miles away, as is St Thomas 3 miles away. Pinhoe 3 miles away is a good choice for families.
