What is UpToDate?
UpToDate® is a comprehensive, evidence-based clinical decision support resource, widely used by healthcare professionals to access the latest medical information and recommendations at the point of care.
UpToDate® includes over 12,700 topics in more than 25 specialties, a drug and interaction database (in collaboration with UpToDate™Lexidrug®), around 1,500 patient education materials and over 37,000 graphics and links to more than 530,000 references.

How to access UpToDate
From an RDUH Trust computer:
- Visit https://uptodate.exe.nhs.uk
- UpToDate is available on all computers connected to the RDUH Trust network.
- Choose the option to Sign in with Open Athens
- Log in using your NHS OpenAthens username and password. If you don't yet have an NHS OpenAthens account, please register here.
- Please note: Users will need to register for an account the first time they access UpToDate.
- Royal Devon University Healthcare should show in the top right-hand corner of the screen:
From personal devices:
- Visit https://www.uptodate.com/login
- Choose the option to Sign in with Open Athens
- Click the link underneath the institution search box that says Sign in with OpenAthens
- Log in using your NHS OpenAthens username and password. If you don't yet have an NHS OpenAthens account, please register here.
- Please note: Users will also need to register for an account the first time they access UpToDate.
How to use the UpToDate app
Users may install the UpToDate Mobile App on up to two devices. The UpToDate Mobile App is available in most countries.
- iOS® users: The UpToDate Mobile App for iOS works with any iPhone® or iPad® running the latest two versions of iOS.
- Android™ users: The UpToDate Mobile App for Android works with Android devices running the latest two versions of Android OS that have at least 50 MB of free phone memory. SD card installation is supported.
