Cancer Genomics – everyone’s business
22 May 2025
A special event at Taunton Racecourse earlier this month brought together healthcare professionals from across the South West to explore the role of genomics in cancer care.
The day focused on equipping the workforce with the knowledge and skills needed to make genomics part of routine care. This means more people can benefit from life-saving genetic testing, which informs diagnosis, treatment, and personalised support.
It was a day filled with perspectives, with insights into the latest in cancer genomics and exploring real-world applications of genomic medicine. To set the scene, we heard from a patient representative who gave a powerful and personal talk highlighting the importance of family history in shaping cancer care and decision-making.
The South West Genomic Medicine Service provides support and resources for NHS professionals who use genomics in their roles. To learn more about genomic testing, please visit the NHS website.
