Help us tackle flu, covid and vomiting bugs through research
14 Sept 2026
Did you know that vaccine research helps protect our local population?
By taking part in vaccine research trials, you can help us reach more people and protect the most vulnerable members of our communities.
We are launching two new vaccine research trials: one looking at a combined flu and COVID vaccine, and another focused on a vaccine for vomiting bugs caused by gastroenteritis.
Flu, covid, and gastroenteritis are major challenges that make people really unwell and place pressure on the NHS each winter.
For example, in England:
Flu was estimated to have contributed to around 3,800 more deaths than would normally be expected during the 2025 to 2026 season.
261 patients were admitted to hospital with COVID-19 in the week ending 31 August 2026.
Gastrointestinal infections cause an estimated 17 million cases in the UK each year, affecting around one in five people.
Starting this Autumn, these innovative trials will test new vaccines aimed at protecting against these viruses and help to prevent severe complications in vulnerable people.
Can you help us?
The Royal Devon Commercial Research Centre is inviting local people to take part in upcoming vaccine research opportunities. To register your interest, please contact our friendly team who will explain more about the trials and how to get involved.
