New information pack available for pregnant women and birthing people
7 Aug 2026
From Tuesday 11 August, births, special baby care and triage at North Devon District Hospital will be temporarily suspended due to the unavailability of medical cover.
We know this news may feel worrying and unsettling, especially if you had planned to give birth at NDDH. We are really sorry for the anxiety and uncertainty this may cause you and your family. We are doing all we can to reopen the maternity service as quickly as possible.
Our immediate commitment is to provide clear information, personalised support and a safe plan for you and your baby's care during this change. To help we have developed a new information pack which brings together a range of advice and information to help you make the right choice for you and your baby.
Please read our new information pack and our FAQ pages which we are regularly updating.
If you are pregnant and have any questions or concerns, please contact our dedicated helpline on 01271 335773, (9am-5pm, Monday – Friday), or speak to your community midwife.
If you have concerns about your pregnancy including reduced fetal movements or bleeding should contact our maternity triage service on 01392 406616.
