Royal Devon Chair announces intention to step down in March 2027
30 Sept 2026
Dame Shan Morgan, Chair of Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, has announced her intention to step down in March 2027.
Over the last five years, Shan has supported the organisation through a period of significant change and development, overseeing progress against the Trust's strategic plan and helping to strengthen partnerships across the health and care system.
Dame Shan Morgan said: "It has been a privilege to serve as Chair of the Royal Devon. Over the coming months I look forward to continuing to support the organisation, our staff and our communities as we prepare for the next stage of the Trust's development. The Royal Devon has strong foundations, exceptional staff and an exciting future. Now is the right time for me to begin the handover to a successor who can lead the Trust as it responds to the challenges set out in the NHS 10-Year Health Plan."
Sam Higginson, Chief Executive Officer said: " I am grateful for Shan's leadership and commitment to the Trust. While this announcement marks the beginning of a succession process, I am pleased that Shan will remain with us until March as we develop our next strategic plan to address the changing nature of health and care that will meet the needs of communities across north and east Devon.”
As we approach the conclusion of current strategy and begin developing our next for delivery from 2027 onwards, this is an appropriate moment to plan for the future and ensure continued strong leadership for the organisation.
Shan will remain Chair throughout the next six months, continuing to provide leadership during an important period for the Trust.
