Royal Devon launches new research academy to empower workforce
16 Jul 2026
The new Royal Devon Research Academy has officially launched, created to support and inspire our workforce to get involved in research, develop their skills, and ultimately improve the health of the communities we care for.
At the Royal Devon, research is not something separate from our usual care. It is a core part of how we deliver the best outcomes for our patients. We can only introduce new treatments and innovative ways to improve care when we start with research. This enables us to implement the findings of projects which have been proven to make a difference.
Research isn’t just for specialists or academics, it is for all of us!
Are you a colleague looking to take your next step in research?
We want to support colleagues across all roles, including nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, healthcare scientists and pharmacists. Whether you’re just starting to explore an idea, looking to build your skills, wanting to use research more as part of evidence-based care, or are already leading research, the academy is here to help everyone.
On the new academy website, you’ll find internal and external training opportunities, guidance on funding, dedicated programmes, tips on how to use research in your usual practice and examples from colleagues who are already making a real difference through research.
There’s also support to help you think about how research can become part of your own career, whatever your role or experience.
