29 May 2025
This June, the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust invites school, college, and university students, career changers, and curious minds of all ages to uncover the fascinating world of genomics and pathology at a unique careers event.
The detective themed event, is an exciting, hands-on experience designed to introduce attendees to careers in genomics, clinical microbiology, and cellular pathology. Through interactive activities, participants will uncover the critical role biomedical scientists, genetic technologists and clinical scientists play in making a difference to patients.
Taking place on Wednesday, 18 June from 3:00pm to 6:30pm in the RILD Building, Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford), the event offers a rare opportunity to step into the shoes of biomedical and clinical scientists, solving medical “mysteries” using the tools and techniques of the lab.
Laura Jones, Senior Biomedical Scientist at the Royal Devon said: "Pathology and Genomics play a vital role in over 70% of NHS diagnoses - yet many aren't aware of the exciting careers behind the scenes in these areas. This interactive event gives you the chance to step into the shoes of NHS scientists, explore the cutting-edge work they do, and discover how you could be part of the NHS's future, whatever stage you're at in your education or career."
There will also be opportunities to quiz the scientific team about the work they do, as well as learn about the different career pathways, course options, and qualifications needed.
