Outpatients
If you have an appointment to see one of our specialist clinicians and do not need to stay in hospital overnight, this means you’re being treated as an outpatient. You may have an appointment for advice, diagnosis, treatment or a minor surgical procedure.
We provide over 1 million outpatient appointments every year and pride ourselves on providing safe, dignified and patient-centred care. We aim to provide a friendly, welcoming and effective service for our patients.
Once your outpatient appointment has been booked you will receive a letter or notification through MY CARE, our online service and app that lets you see your appointments, test results, and other information.
Your appointment may be face to face at one of our sites, including our community hospitals, on the telephone or as a video appointment.
If you no longer need your appointment or need to rearrange it, please let us know at the earliest opportunity so we can offer that appointment to someone else in need. Each missed appointment costs the NHS £170, and across our sites 50,000 appointments are wasted per year because the patient did not attend and did not let us know to cancel. Please let us know if you are unable to attend.
