Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF)
Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) is a registered charity providing vital support to patients with blood cancer and other blood disorders, who attend the Haematology Centre at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (RD&E). Founded in 1980, ELF helped to fund and build the existing Haematology Centre, and in 2017 funded the building of a critical care unit on Yarty ward, named the Chevithorne family suite.
We believe that every patient living with blood cancer is entitled to compassionate, tailored support throughout their journey – from initial diagnosis to treatment and beyond. Our services aim to lighten the load for patients and their families. We offer:
- Transport to and from hospital appointments
- Counselling for patients and their loved ones
- Accommodation in Exeter hotels for patients outside of the city to stay whilst receiving consecutive days of treatment as an outpatient
- Financial grants and Financial & Legal assistance
- Support Groups, providing emotional support in a safe environment which can be crucial for navigating the challenges of blood cancer
- A complimentary refreshment kiosk based within in Haematology Reception, offering free drink, snacks and warm welcome
- Support for NHS staff through grants for further training and equipment purchases
