Ear, nose and throat services
General ENT refers to a wide range of conditions affecting the ear, nose and throat. This includes:
- Rhinology: all aspects of nose and sinus disease including allergy, infection, inflammatory conditions and tumours.
- Otology: treatment of infection, disease and damage to the ear to improve hearing and balance.
- Laryngology: treatment of infections of the throat and larynx to ease speech and swallowing

Our team of specialist surgeons, supported by nurses and other healthcare staff look after adults and children with ear, nose and throat conditions, including:
- Sinus problems, allergy, nasal polyps, nasal injuries, nasal deviations and breathing difficulties
- Conditions affecting the tonsils, adenoids, hoarseness, swallowing difficulties and sleep apnoea
- Ear conditions, such as deafness, dizziness, glue ear, tinnitus, grommets, Meniere’s disease, perforations and mastoid surgery
- Emergency department services for patients with urgent acute problems
- Routine and urgent, new outpatient and follow-up appointments for ENT patients
We can often help our patients using medicines and advice first, using surgery only where necessary.
We also provide services that help treat conditions such as:

- nasal fracture and nasal deviations

- post nasal drip and nasal discharge

Where to find us
Your healthcare professional will advise where your appointment will take place. Your appointment may take place at one of our outpatient clinics situated within our main hospital sites or within the community.
ENT day-case and inpatient surgery are available at both acute sites. However, Head and Neck surgery is only at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (Wonford) along with the majority of on-call emergency ENT services.
