Bear room

Bear room

Welcome to the Bear room. This is a space that accommodates children up to 2 years, providing them with an enriching, cheerful and stimulating learning environment that enhances personal development.

The ratio for this age range is 1:3 for our under 2s and 1:4 for our 2 year olds. Within the room out team work collaboratively and are wholeheartedly invested in presenting meaningful learning opportunities and interactions with the children in our care, so they can develop the skills and learning tools they need to excel whilst they share their learning journey with us.

More about us

We believe children learn most effectively through play. Every day we plan and implement a variety of different learning opportunities that inspire; through exploration, creativity, independent thinking and active learning. In order to achieve this, we have different learning areas consisting of; messy play, construction, arts and design, math, a reading/calm space and small world activities.

In partnership with parents, we share many exciting milestones as well as offering guidance and support to parents when needed. We work to scaffold children’s learning by building strong foundations of learning, providing them with opportunities and experiences that promote independence and help to solidify the development of new skills. We allow children to experiment by beginning to learn using jugs to pour drinks and handling cutlery. Potty training is also something children often become curious about at this age and we work closely in alliance with parents to offer support throughout this transition.

Children are able to free flow around the room as they wish where they are encouraged to express their thoughts and interests. Strong relationships are created and maintained between staff and children to create a caring and happy environment in which they can feel safe and secure. Knowing our children enables us to recognise their needs as individuals and tailor their next step goals accordingly.

We uphold every child is different and we honour individuality and diversity by providing a range of resources that are inclusive for all children. We use a range of communication tools to support the development of vocabulary and for those who need support making themselves understood. These serve as a tool for children to express their needs, thoughts and wants, enabling them to access all forms of communication and take part in the learning and social activities on offer.

Outside area

We have a spacious outdoor space that the children have access to as they desire and we support learning with activities such as obstacle courses to allow our children to develop balancing, walking and jumping skills. We also have our very own outside play kitchen where the children use a range of resources to cook up a delicious treat.

Sand and water play is a staple part of our daily provision which the children love to explore by pouring and transferring using a range of resources. We also have access to a beautiful forest garden that our children love to explore. This provides the opportunity for child-centred learning, allowing a child’s own curiosity and interest to prevail with supported risk-taking. Lots of gardening takes place in our very own allotment where the children learn all about different fruits and vegetables. Children enjoy seeing the growth of these and pick them to taste at snack time.
