Diet and nutrition (What you eat)
What you eat and drink can really help you feel your best and stay healthy. Eating lots of different healthy foods and drinking enough water can help you stay a healthy weight and feel good.
A healthy diet includes:
- Fruit and vegetables
- Foods with fibre, like wholemeal bread or brown rice
- Oily fish like salmon
- Less fat and processed foods like chips or ready meals
When you are pregnant, it’s also important to eat foods with lots of iron, like red meat, beans, or green vegetables.
By making a few small changes to what you eat, you can help keep yourself and your baby healthy.
If you are overweight, it can help to lose a little weight before getting pregnant. This can make it easier to get pregnant and lower the chance of problems during pregnancy. NHS weight in pregnancy
