Community Equipment services
There are many types of equipment that can help you in your daily life. These range from small items like bath aids and handrails to large specialist equipment designed to help people with particular disabilities. If your Social Services or health professional has assessed you as needing this equipment and you meet the eligibility criteria then this will be arranged for you.
With help from the Department of Health, Social Services and local NHS organisations have created a joint Devon Community Equipment Service.
We are sharing our planning with service users and voluntary organisations to ensure we meet people’s needs as closely as possible. Social Services already has a county-wide service operating from Exeter supplying equipment directly to people's own homes or to local stores for onward delivery by health and social care professionals.

Expert Moving and Handling Advisor, Devon countywide
Staff in the community have access to an Expert Moving and Handing Advisor (EMHA) who is able to provide advice and support around complex moving and handling cases where risk assessment and equipment provision is integral. The EMHA provides individualised case support, discussion and signposting for staff and relevant organisations.
This will always cover the regulations and legal frameworks that govern moving and handling. The EMHA also delivers specific scenario-based master classes. The role ensures staff across all Devon health and social care have access to the latest moving and handling equipment developments encompassing an ergonomic approach to reducing risk and ensuring safe and effective care provision, whilst maintaining and optimising functional independence.
