Cardiology (children)
Cardiology is the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases and defects.
Our experienced team of doctors and nurses look after babies, children and teenagers with a range of heart conditions diagnosed before and after birth. We work closely with the Children's Heart Unit in Bristol.
We have three paediatricians (children's doctors) who specialise in cardiology. Together with our nursing and other healthcare staff, we will help to diagnose and treat your baby or child's condition.
We offer an acute inpatient service to infants, children and teenagers with heart problems, as well as an outpatient service for those referred to us by their GPs.
More about us
As part of our assessments, we can:
- Analyse electrocardiograms (ECGs) - a test which measures the electrical activity of the heart to show whether or not it is working normally.
- Perform cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography) - a scan used to look at the heart and nearby blood vessels.
- Perform and interpret specialist tests, such as ambulatory ECG’s - where the electrodes are connected to a small portable machine worn at the waist so the heart can be monitored at home for 1 or more days
- Carry out blood pressure monitoring
