Creedy Ward

Creedy ward provides high-quality in-patient renal services for the population of Devon and much of Somerset. In our last CQC inspection, we received an 'Outstanding' rating.

Creedy is a 25 bedded acute renal ward made up of three bays, each with six beds, as well as seven side rooms. These are divided into same-sex accommodation, with same-sex toilets and bathrooms close by. Sharing with members of the opposite sex will only happen when clinically necessary.

In addition, we also have a three-bedded bay area and a side room set aside to provide haemodialysis treatments and plasma exchange for patients either on the ward or from other parts of the hospital.

Meet the team

We are led by a matron and an experienced group of senior nurses, all with many years of renal nursing experience. We also have a clinical practice facilitator who provides additional expertise, support and education for more junior staff. All staff working on Creedy are trained in haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis and will spend time in other parts of the renal unit with the extended renal team in order to learn wider renal skills.

Services and treatments

Creedy aims to be a friendly and supportive environment for our patients. Often people will require more than one visit to our services, so over time a strong relationship is built up between staff, patients and their relatives. This is invaluable to both patients and staff alike.

We provide services for the following groups of patients:

  • Patients with acute (usually reversible) kidney failure.
  • Patients with chronic (usually irreversible) kidney failure.
  • Patients who require renal replacement therapy (haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis).
  • Patients with a kidney transplant.
  • Any other patient with a renal related disease.
  • Provision of specialist treatments such as plasma exchange.

Patients are also supported by a variety of renal specialist services such as:

  • Peritoneal dialysis nurses
  • Renal dieticians
  • Supportive care nurse
  • Transplant nurses
  • Renal vascular access nurses

On occasion, when patients are reaching the end of their life, they may choose to spend their final days with us on the ward. This may be because they have built a relationship with the team over time and patients and their families feel supported and safe in our care. Creedy Ward and the supportive care team have achieved the Gold Standards Framework Accreditation, a nationally recognised Quality Hallmark Award for demonstrating excellence in end of life care.
