The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is committed to supporting and delivering commercially sponsored clinical trials, observational studies and other well designed research that originates from industry. The Trust works with sponsors from a variety of sectors including pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies. Supporting commercial research allows us to provide excellent care and the earliest access to diagnostics and treatments for its patients.

Clinicians and their research teams across the hospital have the expertise and infrastructure to recruit patients into phase I, II, III and IV clinical trials and also qualitative clinical trials.

The research and development (R&D) department offers a range of services to support commercial companies to set-up and successfully run their studies at the Royal Devon for the benefit of better patient care. The Trust supports both commercial and non-commercially funded research, both in collaboration with the NIHR and independently.
