Our vision: Royal Devon's Green Plan

Becoming the first-ever national healthcare system to achieve net zero is no small task.

To help accomplish this, we have developed a Green Plan to outline our short and long-term sustainability goals, along with a roadmap of how we plan to reach this.

Our Green Plan milestones at a glance:

  • 2025 - the NHS aims to cut more than 1 million tonnes of CO2 emissions it produces across England, this is equivalent to taking 520,000 cars off the road

  • 2030 - at the Royal Devon we aim to cut our core carbon emissions by 80%

  • 2040 - the Royal Devon will achieve Net Zero by reducing the amount of carbon we produce

  • 2045 - accomplish Net Zero Plus by reducing thousands of tonnes of CO2. This will be achieved through Trust wide changes to the way we deliver our services and collaboration with wider NHS organisation, partners and supply chain

For us at the Royal Devon, our goals will be achieved by focussing on nine key areas of action, including delivering sustainable models of care, supporting staff to implement green improvements across our services, and reducing the environmental impact of building works.

Our Green Plan is ambitious and we’ll need support from our staff and the wider community to achieve it. Together, we can make a lasting difference and help to build a better future for us all.
