Inpatient
CQC Adult Inpatient Surveys
This survey looks at the experiences of adults that have been an inpatient at an NHS hospital. The survey has been running since 2002 and is published annually.
Urgent care
CQC Urgent and emergency care surveys.
This survey looks at the experiences of people using type 1 and type 3 urgent and emergency care services.
Two questionnaires are used, tailored to each service type. Results are reported for each service type at trust and overall England level.
- Type 1 services include A&E departments, and may also be known as casualty or emergency departments.
- Type 3 services include urgent treatment centres, and may also be known as minor injury units. The survey only includes services directly run by an acute NHS trust.
This survey is published bi-annually.

Cancer
The National Cancer Patient Experience survey allows cancer patients to give feedback on the care they have received. This feedback is used to understand where care is working well and how NHS cancer services across England can be improved.
Results from the survey are used by providers to improve the experience of cancer patients at a national, regional, and local level. The survey is run by Picker on behalf of NHS England. This survey is scheduled annually.

The CQC Maternity survey looks at the experiences of women and other pregnant people that have had a live birth. This survey is published annually.

Children & young people
This survey looks at the experiences of children, young people and their parents and carers attending hospital. This survey is published bi-annually.
The last survey was completed in 2020 prior to the merger of RD&E and NDDH. The survey was then paused and is scheduled to recommence in 2024.
