Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy

We provide community Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy services across North, East and Mid Devon as well as Exeter, seeing patients within their own homes as well as in community hospitals and care settings.

We provide a service that boosts the independence, health and wellbeing of our patients, whether this is short-term assistance for people with acute medical needs or support for those managing long-term conditions. We also provide community therapy as part of a package of support for palliative or end of life care.  This flexible service can even support a safe and effective transfer home from hospital.

Our service is integrated with social care and community nursing to deliver the best possible care for those who need us most.

Community Exercise Strength and Balance Groups

Strength and Balance exercises have been shown to reduce someone’s risk of falling, helping them remain as independent as possible thus improving quality of life and reducing healthcare utilisation. NHS Devon and the Royal Devon University Hospitals Trust have therefore supported the set-up of evidence-based groups external to the NHS. These are 24week courses run by postural stability instructors.

Classes are free at the point of access for at least 6weeks and then a reduced rate for the remainder of the course. Courses are run by Leisure East Devon, Exeter City Council, Mid Devon Leisure, Wellmoor Devon,
Westbank and SeaChange.

MSK musculoskeletal

Our team provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment and self-management advice for adults with musculoskeletal conditions. We work with people to generate person-centered goals, and will advise on how interventions can help such as 1:1 excercises or group-based sessions which may be carried out by external providers.

Social prescribing

Social prescribing connects individuals (often those who are lonely, anxious or depressed or are struggling to manage their long-term conditions) to voluntary sector activities, support groups and community resources (advice on employment, housing and debt) to promote health, well-being and independence.
