Fox room
Welcome to the Fox room. This is a space that accommodates children under 2 years old, providing them with a cheerful and stimulating yet safe environment to allow them to learn and grow.
The ratio for this age range is 1:3 for our under 2s and 1:4 for our 2 year olds. Within the room our team work collaboratively to provide meaningful learning opportunities and interactions to support their development. The wellbeing of our children is paramount and we take pride in sharing their learning journey during their time at First Steps.

In the Fox room, we believe that providing a welcoming, safe and caring environment in which children are able to explore and develop is essential for any child starting their learning journey. We pride ourselves on presenting children with a variety of different activities and learning opportunities, encouraging children to learn through experience, following their exploratory impulse. Our room consists of a team of dedicated staff who work together to ensure that your child’s time at nursery is enjoyable and allows them the opportunity to thrive.
We implement topics that link to the curriculum, encouraging and supporting their development of understanding and knowledge of the world around them. We love to keep families in the loop with the children’s’ enjoyment and progress at nursery so we often send home fun activities or crafts for parents, children and siblings to do together.
Our outside space
We also have a spacious garden that the children have access to throughout the day come rain or shine. This gives the children further opportunities to learn and develop with activities such as climbing, running and balancing.
What does a typical day look like?
A typical day in Fox room would look like this:
- 8am-9am - Welcoming children and free play
- 9.10am-9.30am - Children help to tidy up the toys - group time, singing, letters and sounds
- 9.30am-10am - Snack time
- 10am-10.45am - Adult led activity/garden
- 10.45am-11.10am - Free play
- 11.10am-11.30am - Children help to tidy up the toys - group time/leap into life
- 11.30am-12.15pm - Lunch time
- 2pm-2.35pm - Adult led activity/garden
- 2.35pm-3pm - Free play
- 3pm-3.45pm - Children help to tidy up the toys - snack time
- 3.45pm-4.45pm - Free play/garden
- 4.45pm-6pm - Home time
