Prosthetics is a term that refers to any artificial device which replaces a missing body part. We look after people who need prosthetic limbs.
People need to be fitted with a prosthetic limb for a number of reasons, this can be because of an injury, disease or a birth defect.
Information and about us
The prosthetic team provide a full service to amputees from pre-amputation onwards. Our prosthetists will assess for and provide artificial limbs for service users providing a holistic approach to enable them to continue with their everyday life.
If you're able to have a prosthetic limb (they are not suitable for everyone) our team will work with you to make sure it suits your needs. The type of limb will depend on your general health, your muscle strength and the type of tasks the limb will need to do.
As well as fitting your prosthetic limb, our staff and therapists will work with you to provide specialist rehabilitation. Adjusting to life with a prosthetic limb can take a considerable amount of time and energy. We will support you and your family through this often difficult process.
We run a counselling service, which is open to anyone affected by limb absence or loss - it doesn't have to be the person living without a limb. Our counsellor can visit you in hospital if you've had to have an amputation (surgical removal of a body part, such as an arm or leg). They can also talk to you in our counselling room or over the phone if you're not able to travel.

We provide services in a range of settings, including our new centre. The centre has improved clinic room facilities, such as a ceiling track hoist.
We also work with our users in specialist schools, community hospitals and at home, if necessary.
