Qualifying as a Registered Nurse in 2026?

Join the Royal Devon team where you'll be supported and nurtured in your first registered role. 

Our recruitment support and interview events provide a relaxed environment to meet some of our team, learn about the different departments, and our nationally recognised preceptorship programme and buddy scheme. 

As part of your preceptorship, you'll receive protected time to study and be assigned a preceptor to help guide you. Your preceptorship portfolio will also count towards degree or master's credits if you wish to continue your education, and we will provide you with career development support to help you plan for the future.

Considering your future career can feel overwhelming, especially with so many options. If you're thinking of a career change, knowing how to transfer your skills to a new sector can be challenging. That’s why we’ve launched the NHS Careers Hub with Exeter College.

Alison, our Career Development Lead, will discuss your goals, recommend courses, and guide you through the diverse career opportunities in patient-facing roles or behind the scenes.

Apprenticeship Week Careers Fair

Whether you're starting out, switching careers, or advancing your expertise, there’s a career for everyone at the Royal Devon. One pathway we have available is apprenticeships.

Apprenticeships allow you to earn while you learn, combining classroom learning with practical, hands-on experience. Learners get the chance to gain nationally recognised qualifications in a diverse range of careers including customer service, HR, marketing, nursing, team leadership, podiatry, and many more.

Medical Work Experience (Exeter) 2026

An exciting and inspirational work experience programme, open to year 12 students from local colleges and sixth forms aspiring to attend medical school.

A collaboration between

  • Dr Ray Sheridan, Director of Medical Education, Royal Devon
  • Dr Helen Clark, Clinical Sub Dean, University of Exeter Medical School
  • Trust work experience team

The applications for the 2026 event will open in the new year, but in the meantime if you have any questions or would like to go on our expressions of interest list please email rduh.workexperience@nhs.net

This incredible opportunity includes

  • shadowing Consultants/Doctors across the Trust, in surgery, clinics, ward rounds, research and training
  • learning how to assess a patient using clinical skills
  • introduction to our state-of-the-art SIMS suite
  • specialist workshops from Professors, Consultants, and Clinical professionals showcasing insights into key advances in health
  • talks from Doctors to find out about “the life of a Doctor” and the opportunity to ask lots of questions
