The vaccination centre at Barnstaple Leisure Centre is moving from its current site to a purpose-built mobile centre in the car park of the Barnstaple Tesco Extra from Monday 9 May 2022.

The new centre is just across the road from its current site and will provide vaccines to those with appointments. Walk-in slots will also continue to be available from the new site.

Anyone with a booked appointment at Barnstaple Leisure Centre for Monday 9 May or afterwards should go to the new centre, which will be in the Tesco Extra car park in Barnstaple. You will receive a communication from the NHS to confirm this.

“We would like to thank Barnstaple Leisure Centre for kindly accommodating the vaccination programme and we are delighted that Barnstaple Tesco Extra has so generously offered us space to continue the vital job of protecting our communities against COVID-19.”

Prof Adrian Harris, Chief Medical Officer at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust said: “So far, over 2.8 million COVID-19 vaccines have been administered across Devon. Vaccination reduces the likelihood of contracting COVID-19 and it may also provide some protection from developing Long COVID.

“Our Spring booster campaign and vaccinations for 5-11 year olds are now well underway, and we encourage all those who are eligible to come along and get their jabs. It’s also not too late for anyone who hasn’t yet had their first, second or first booster doses.”

A Tesco spokesperson said, “When we were approached by the NHS to host this new vaccination centre, we leaped at the opportunity to help. Tesco considers itself to be very much a part of the tight-knit community of Northern Devon, and are delighted we can play our part in helping keep members of our community safe.”

Everyone with appointments up to and including Sunday 8 May should attend the Barnstaple Leisure Centre, as well as people wishing to walk in for their vaccination up to this date.
