Innovative NHS service seeks patient representatives
16 Jul 2024
The South West Genomic Medicine Service (SWGMS) is inviting enthusiastic volunteers to join their Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Forum.
Representing a partnership of NHS Trusts across the South West, including the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, the SWGMS provides genetic and genomic testing services and support for patients and families affected by rare genetic conditions and cancer.
Now, people with lived experience of genetic testing are invited to help shape future services by joining the PPI forum as patient public volunteers. This can be individuals with personal experience, or those with family members, carers, or friends who have undergone genetic testing.
Nigel Burton, PPI Lead for the SWGMS, said:
"As the chair of the Patient and Public Involvement Forum, I've witnessed the really worthwhile impact that patient voices can have on shaping healthcare services.”
“By joining our forum, you can play a crucial role in advancing genomic medicine in South West England, ensuring that our healthcare system meets the needs of our diverse communities and places patients at the centre of everything we do."
