Today, on International Day of the Midwife, we’d like to thank our midwives and maternity support workers and everyone else who works in our maternity teams for their continued hard work, compassion and dedication.
There are no words to describe the impact that our midwifery colleagues have on the lives of our local communities – they help women, pregnant people and their families through, what is for many, the greatest and most important moment in their lives. On very sad occasions, where families experience an indescribable loss, our midwifery teams display a deep, genuine empathy to support our patients and their loved ones through their pain.
Providing outstanding care to women and their families has been made all the more difficult by the complexities of the COVID-19 pandemic, and yet across England, we have delivered around 1,600 babies every day since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic - that works out at approximately one birth every 54 seconds!
Alongside other colleagues, our midwifery teams work tirelessly to care for babies, parents and families in extraordinary circumstances, and we remain incredibly proud of all that we have achieved together across our services.
Thank you all so much for everything you do,
Sally Bryant Head of Midwifery – Northern services
Zita Martinez Head of Midwifery – Eastern services
