National campaign highlights importance of SARC services
27 Nov 2025
The United Nation's 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (25 November – 10 December 2025) is a campaign which also highlights the importance of sexual assault referral centres (SARCs).
Sexual assault referral centres (SARCs) offer specialist care and support to anyone who has been raped, sexually assaulted or abused at any time in their life.
Devon & Cornwall has SARCs in Exeter, Plymouth and Truro. The specialist services are delivered through Royal Devon, and the centres provide immediate emotional, medical and practical care for anyone who has experienced rape or sexual assault.
Individuals can access a SARC without involving the police - it is entirely their choice. For anyone has been recently raped or sexually assaulted, they will be offered a forensic medical examination with evidence stored for up to two years.
The #16DayOfAction campaign is a great way to raise awareness of SARCs, and ensure anyone who needs these services knows where to turn to for advice.
For more information, or for help and support, Devon & Cornwall SARCs offer a 24-hour information line: 0300 303 4626. Or visit sarchelp.co.uk
