New midwifery room at Crediton Hospital a collaborative effort
11 May 2026
We’ve officially opened a new, dedicated space for midwives and their patients at Crediton Hospital.
The room provides a welcoming, private, and purpose-designed environment for antenatal and postnatal appointments, health education and ongoing maternity support for local families, and is a result of close collaboration between The League of Friends of Crediton Hospital, NHS Property Services, and the Royal Devon.
“We’re thrilled to have this new facility at Crediton Hospital. It will make such a huge difference for patient experience, and provides our midwifery colleagues with a lovely working environment. I would like to thank the League of Friends of Crediton Hospital for funding the project,” says Carolyn Mills, Chief Nursing Officer.
Pauline Bonner, Clinical Midwifery Manager, expressed her thanks to everyone involved in bringing the project to life, describing the room as “a fabulous result” and “a long time coming,” adding her appreciation for all those who supported the funding and development behind the scenes.
Community Midwife Sue Murrin said she was delighted to be working in the new space, describing it as a “wonderful, usable facility” that enhances the care experience for patients.
The opening was formally marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Pauline Bonner, with special guests including Courtenay and Billy Lawton and their newborn baby, Lottie. NHS Property Services, The League of Friends of Crediton Hospital and community and administrative colleagues supporting the service also attended the special event.
The Royal Devon works closely with League of Friends organisations on a number of different projects. They provide funding support that is made possible through generous donations, bequests, and community fundraising.
