Building work has begun on a bespoke new endoscopy unit at Tiverton and District Hospital to provide expanded endoscopy services to patients across North, East and Mid Devon.
This exciting new Royal Devon facility will include three endoscopy suites and space for patients to wait, prepare and recover plus colleague space and training facilities in a self-contained, purpose built area within the grounds of Tiverton and District Hospital. The new unit will help reduce waiting times and meet the growing demand for endoscopies.
The new facility is due for completion early next year and should start seeing patients in Spring 2025. While building work in ongoing a temporary endoscopy unit is in use at the hospital.
Sam Higginson, Chief Executive Officer at the Royal Devon, said: “I’m pleased to be able to mark the start of this project to build a bespoke endoscopy unit in Tiverton. We are really excited about the additional capacity it will create and the benefits this new unit will bring to patients across Devon. We look forward to welcoming the first patients next spring.”
Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust secured funding from NHS England to build the unit which will JAG accredited - an accreditation awarded to the highest quality gastrointestinal endoscopy services.
