Nightingale Hospital Exeter

The NHS Nightingale Hospital Exeter was initially part of the national response to the COVID-19 pandemic, caring for nearly 250 patients with COVID-19 from across Devon, Somerset and Dorset.
It is managed by the Royal Devon and is overseen by its Board of Directors. It has been transformed into a state-of-the-art facility and is home to the following services:
- Centre of Excellence for Eyes, which is delivering diagnostic outpatient services and cataract surgery
- Devon Diagnostic Centre, which is hosting CT, MRI, Plain Film X-ray, Ultrasound and Fluoroscopy services
- The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s Rheumatology department (Eastern Services – previously Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital)
- Southwest Ambulatory Orthopaedic Centre, which has two operating theatres for day case and short stay elective orthopaedic procedures, and is a GIRFT-accredited Elective Surgical Hub.
- Buttercup Outpatient Unit, opened in June 2024 and provides state-of-the-art technology, innovative approaches and additional capacity to transform and improve care for patients across Devon. Pathways from across a diverse range of specialities will be providing new one-stop clinics with the aim of improving the overall experience for patients whilst delivering efficient safe clinical pathways. The new facilities comprise of eight consulting rooms, a procedure room, an echo room and a respiratory room.
