On Wednesday 17 May we held a Members’ Event at Barnstaple Library and on MS Teams. This was the first event we hosted in North Devon and we were delighted to see lots of people come along to hear what’s happening at the Trust.
You had some great questions for us and it was a valuable opportunity for us to hear your views. Thank you to everyone who came along.
Our governors also took the opportunity to speak to members about their views and experiences. This is incredibly useful to them, as they can use this information to represent the interests of members and the public when they are carrying out the duties of the Council of Governors.

Welcome and Session 1: How we are using digital technology to transform the care we offer
Jess Newton, Head of Communications and Engagement, opened the event with Dale Hall, Public Governor in our Northern constituency and chair of our Public and Members Engagement Group.
In our first session we had three talks from clinical staff that showed how the Trust is using digital technology to improve care. This included MY CARE, which gives you better access to your medical records, our Acute Hospital at Home, and digital outpatient transformation.
North Devon District Hospital is one of the hospitals chosen for investment through the Government’s New Hospital Programme. In our second session, two members of the Our Future Hospital team talked about the Trust’s plans.
*These slides and recordings were shared at our event on 17 May 2023. On 25 May 2023, the Government provided an update in Parliament about the national New Hospital Programme. We look forward to working closely with the national programme team to learn more about when and how we can progress our scheme, and we will share updates when we know more.
Focus group: How can the Royal Devon use digital technology to make patient care better?
After hearing about how the Trust is using digital technology, we wanted to hear what members think. We had some really good conversations. Understanding your views is really important as it helps us make the best decisions for our local communities. You can read a summary of what we heard by clicking the link below. These themes are also being shared with our Board of Directors and our clinical and digital leads, as well as our Governors.
