Emergency Gynaecology Assessment Unit (EGAU) - East
The emergency gynaecology clinic is for women with acute emergency gynaecological problems, including early pregnancy problems, who are unable to wait for an outpatient appointment.
You can be referred by your GP, other hospital specialities, or Emergency Department medical staff. Once referred, you will be seen within 24-48 hours. The unit does not take self-referrals
Information and about us
You will be seen in EGAU following referral by a health care professional.
Here you will be seen and triaged by a member of the nursing team, a full history of your symptoms will be taken.
You may require blood tests or an ultra sound scan and you will be seen by a Doctor and examined. Following any tests, a plan of care will be made.
There are a number of treatments and investigations carried out in this area and these are dependent on your symptoms.

Emergency Gynaecology clinics run from Monday to Friday, usually in the morning.
Meet the team
This service is led by Obstetric and Gynaecology Consultants who work closely with Clinical Nurse Specialists, Registered Nurses and Health Care assistants all who have a great deal of experience.
They are supported by the administration team who will book appointment’s and book follow ups. The team work closely with Wynard Ward.
Supporting you
Women’s Health Counsellors are part of the team providing care in The Centre for Women’s Health. We offer emotional support for women accessing the services of Gynaecology.
Gynaecology referrals for counselling support include:-
- Decision making when considering gynaecology surgery, e.g. Hysterectomy
- Post-operatively, within 4 months of surgery taking place.
