Neurological rehabilitation is the treatment and care provided to manage conditions, regain independence and help with wellbeing. Our service is run by a multidisciplinary team who offer rehabilitation and support to people with neurological conditions impacting their day-to-day life.

Neurological Rehabilitation Outpatients - North
The Neurological Rehabilitation Outpatient Services is a multidisciplinary team designed to offer rehabilitation and support to people with a neurological condition impacting on their day to day life.
We offer a multi-disciplinary approach with staff from Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. Sessions are held within the Therapy Outpatient areas at North Devon District hospital.
We also offer exercise classes online or at Petroc College.

Referrals
Referrals can be made via your GP, health, social or mental health practitioner. Referrals should be sent to ndht.therapyreferrals@nhs.net We do not accept self-referrals.
Community Neurological Rehabilitation - East
Using a multi-discipline approach, we work with people who have a physical disability, a chronic neurological health condition, and/or acquired brain injury.
The service focuses on education and aims to help you recover from or manage your health condition and improve your quality of life.
Please note that you must be registered with an Exeter GP to access our service.

Mardon Neuro-Rehabilitation Centre
The Mardon Neuro-Rehabilitation Centre is our purpose-built, 12-bed specialist neuro-rehabilitation inpatient unit. We are located near the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (Wonford) site.
Our team provides specialist rehabilitation programmes for people with a range of medical, physical, cognitive and/or emotional difficulties caused by a neurological condition. That could mean disorders of the brain, spinal cord and/or the nerves that connect them.
Meet the team
We have a multi-disciplinary team made up of:
- Neurorehabilitation consultants working across both North and Eastern services
- Occupational Therapists who will assess and then provide information and treatment to help with managing your daily activities, leisure activities and returning to work.
- Physiotherapists who will assess and then provide information and treatment to help with movement, balance, strength, flexibility and mobility. This may be through exercise, manual therapy, education and advice. This is to help you with your recovery and enable you to stay as active and independent for as long as possible.
- Support workers who work with the therapists to provide you with the support to continue your treatment.
- Administration staff who provide clerical support for the team.
We also work with:
- Speech and Language Therapists who can assess and provide information, treatment and support for people with difficulties with communication (including reading and writing) and swallowing.
- Clinical Psychologists who help you with the emotional and psychological effects of your condition.
- Parkinson’s Disease (PD) Specialist Nurses who provide advice, help and support for your condition.
- Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Nurse who provide advice, help and support for your condition.
Services and treatments
The first time we see you, one or more of the therapists will make an assessment and help you decide if you will benefit from treatment by our team.
Together with you, we will then decide what you want to achieve and what sort of treatment plan would be helpful. This might involve one or more of the professionals in our team.
We also arrange groups to provide:
- Fatigue management strategies
- Memory management strategies
- Neuro exercises
- Postural stability education and exercise
- Upper limb rehabilitation
You can refer yourself or you can be referred by your GP or other health or social care staff.
