What is BNF/BNFC?

Accessed through MedicinesComplete, BNF Publications bring authoritative, independent guidance on best practice together with clinically validated drug information.

The authority on the selection and use of medicines. The BNF is organised for quick reference and provides information for healthcare professionals on safe and effective use of medicines, and the management of common conditions.

The BNF for Children (BNFC) provides guidance on the actions and uses of drugs prescribed in the UK for children.

How to access BNF/BNFC

  • Visit https://www.medicinescomplete.com
  • Click Login then select Login via Shibboleth/OpenAthens.
  • Choose NHS in England from the list of organisations.
  • Sign in with your NHS OpenAthens username and password. If you don't yet have an NHS OpenAthens account, please register here.

How to use the BNF and BNFC app

  • Download the BNF app from the Apple App Store or Google Play on Android.
  • Select Register/Log in.
  • Select Create an account if you do not already have a personal BNF account.
  • Enter your details as prompted and tick the box that says 'I'm not using this app for commercial purposes'.
