Our Eastern Maternity services
No matter what you need, we are here to give safe and caring help to mums and babies.
The Labour Ward
Our labour ward has 10 private rooms for giving birth. One of the rooms has a birthing pool.
There is also a special operating theatre (room) and a place to rest and be monitored after birth. (Recovery)
We work closely with baby doctors (neonatal team) who care for tiny or poorly babies.
Your birth partner (like your husband, wife, friend, or family member) can stay with you the whole time you are in labour.
Exeter Birth Unit
This is for mums who have had a low-risk pregnancy is when both the pregnant person and baby are healthy, with no medical problems or complications expected with no problems.
There are 2 birth rooms at the Exeter Birth Unit. Both have birthing pools to help you relax while having your baby.
Tiverton Birth Centre
Tiverton Birth Centre is in Tiverton Hospital.
It is also for women with healthy pregnancies. The midwives here will look after you during labour and birth.
There are 5 beds for mums and babies to rest after the birth.
If you give birth in Exeter, you can still move to Tiverton later to get help with feeding your baby and resting.
Having Your Baby at Home
If you want to give birth at home, the Elder Team of midwives will come to help you.
If you are thinking about a home birth, please talk to your midwife. They can ask the Elder Team to contact you.
