What do you need to bring to hospital
It’s a good idea to get your hospital bag ready at least three weeks before your due date. These lists from the NHS can help you pack for yourself and your baby.
What to Pack for Yourself:
- Loose, comfy clothes for during labour that let you move easily
- Three changes of loose, comfy clothes
- Two or three comfy bras, including ones for breastfeeding if you're planning to
- Breast pads
- Two packs of maternity pads (they are thicker than normal pads)
- Five or six pairs of knickers – you can bring disposable ones if you like
- A washbag with your toothbrush, hairbrush, flannel, soap, lip balm, deodorant, hair ties, and other toiletries
- Towels
- Things to help you relax, like books, magazines, music, or podcasts
- A small fan or water spray to help you cool down
- Nighties or tops that are loose or open at the front if you plan to breastfeed
- A dressing gown and slippers
- Healthy snacks and drinks
- Extra pillows if you want them
- A TENS machine (if you plan to use one for pain relief)
- Any medicine you are taking
What to Pack for Your Baby:
- Bodysuits, vests, and sleepsuits
- An outfit for going home
- A hat, scratch mittens, and socks or booties
- Plenty of nappies
- A shawl or blanket
- Muslin cloths or bibs
- A car seat for the ride home (you will need this to leave the hospital)
